For consumers, tenants and workers:
• Direct legal representation engaging in negotiations with landlords and small business owners and retailers on consumer/credit issues and with employers on unpaid wages and other employment issues.
For non-English speakers who need assistance with court or government agency paperwork:
• Assistance preparing applications or responding to court or government correspondence and advice on how to navigate these situations.
For individuals facing deportation proceedings or trying to find their relatives who have been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE):
• Advice, referrals, and assistance finding family members
• Help finding pro-bono attorneys in the case of those arrested during ICE raids
• Assistance securing a “T-visa” for a victim of human trafficking to stay in the country and testify against her/his abusers.
Intakes for these legal matters as well as Legal Rights Presentations are conducted at CASA’s Workers Centers as follows:
At CASA’s Multicultural Center (78151 15th Avenue Hyattsville, MD 20783), every Tuesday morning from 8:00 am, 24 legal intakes are conducted on a first-come-first-serve basis (except that CASA members are assisted first. Information on becoming a CASA Member is available here.) and Know Your Rights presentations are conducted on the third Friday of each month.
At CASA’s Wheaton Workers’ Center (2729 University Blvd. W., Wheaton, MD 20902, Tel: 301-933-4461), legal intakes are conducted on the last Friday of each month, following Legal Rights Presentations which begin at 8:00 am.
At CASA’s Prince George’s Workers’ Center (7978-B New Hampshire Ave, Hyattsville, MD 20783; Tel: 888- 669-7422) , on the third Thursday of each month, legal intakes are conducted following Legal Rights Presentations which begin at 8:00 am.
At CASA’s Baltimore Workers’ Employment Center (2224 East Fayette Street, Baltimore, MD 21231) legal intakes are conducted by appointment on the last Tuesday of each month. Please call: (410) 732-2694 to make an appointment.
